Sustainable, a term you can't seem to get away from these days. You can look at this term in as many as 100 different ways. For example, by the way of production, by how long a product lasts, by the fact that it is made of recycled materials and so on. Sometimes something is already called sustainable if there is minimal progress in way of production. In short, the word "sustainable" is fittingly attributed to everything. This misleads you as a consumer and gives you the idea that you are always doing something sustainable. Well, isn't that a good thing?", you might think. But we disagree at Colorful Loft Living. There should actually be some sort of sustainability score, just like we have the 'Nutri score' for food. To avoid getting caught up in this craziness surrounding the word sustainable, we choose the word "responsible" living.

Responsible Living: the concept
Responsible living includes a preference for reused furniture and materials. This is because we believe that reusing something is the most effective form of "sustainable" and therefore responsible. There are no crooked marketing tricks around this to make you think you are doing good. It's simple, someone on the other side of the circle wants to get rid of their furniture, gets rid of it or puts it up for sale and we then come across it. The furniture is purchased, placed in your home and in most cases can last for years to come. We offer various services that will help you realize a responsible dwelling.
Possibilities are endless
If you leave behind the most obvious home furnishing stores and start looking at how many offerings there are in reusable items you will be amazed. There is much more than just Marketplace. We notice it all around us, thrift stores are being crowded, Instagram accounts offering second-hand stuff are popping up like mushrooms and even for the high end there are plenty of solutions to get second-hand design gems. We recently discovered Whoppah on the Vt-wonen design fair. They are similar to marketplace but they only offer design items, deliver and check these items themselves before they go to the buyer. This way you know for sure that your purchase is good and you don't have the hassle of meeting with the seller.
Meanwhile, we are busy compiling a shopping guide listing all the thrift, second-hand, vintage and antique stores in the Netherlands. By no means all stores can be found on Google Maps and if they are on there, the reviews are downright sad. In most cases you can succeed well in these kinds of stores, you just have to leave behind the image of normal shopping. The "thrift shopping" is actually fun because of searching through racks full of crockery, through packed halls of furniture and then finding what you were looking for, or sometimes not even looking for.
We are going to do our best to visit all these stores ourselves and evaluate them in an objective way. What is the offer? What is the minimum price and what is the maximum price? What items and styles do they offer? That way you can make a good selection of stores you want to visit based on that. This is how we help you use stuff sustainably and thus live responsibly.
For interior & exterior
When we look at today's architecture we see that everything has to exude luxury. Your home becomes almost a symbol of status not only on the outside but also on the inside. We do not believe in that, we believe that a house should radiate personality and that we as designers should be an example to the outside world. By showing people how it can be done, instead of being a reflection of all the Woonmagazines, we are a reflection of you as a person. We are the ones who make sustainable bright, thereby showing that responsible living can be beautiful and for everyone, big wallet or small wallet that does not matter to us.
We want to focus on modular solutions and applying recycled materials, including in the construction of homes. That is why we are currently busy exploring these kinds of solutions. If together we show more about the possibilities of responsible living, more and more people will make this choice. Therefore read regularly our blog for updates around this topic.
